even though it is almost new years! geesh! these last few days have flown by! my intention was to blog on christmas eve, but we had company and it got too late, the same on christmas day, then, one of the gifts i received was "myst IV revelation, a great game! i started with riven when it came out in the late 90's, then myst, uru, and now, back to myst. the last couple of years i have been busy with ebay, when, the week after christmas has always been reserved for games and fun family things, so this year i am taking time out and playing again! by the weeks end, i will be starting bookmaking again, it is hard to stay away from my desk, but i think it is a good thing to do once in a while. here are some of my favorite things:
these are gifts from over the years from my girls, my mom and my sister. our mantle holds a resin santa with ... plastic reindeer- many times over the last few years, i have thought, "i am going to replace these plastic reindeer with some nice heavy, metal, designer ones", but these are the original ones that i had gotten when jess was born and meg was just 2, they were safe and wouldn't cost a lot to replace if broken. well, they still look like they did when new over 15 years ago, they hold memories and tradition. i suppose our grand kids will grow up with them too!
i hope that all of you have had a wonderful holiday, filled with love- of food, family and friends, peace- within and surrounding you, and joy of the season! -rebecca
so, finally, i have finished another album which i have posted on ebay. this is a manila envelope album like "the witching hour" album that i made for halloween. i have made the envelopes from bazzill card stock and each one measures 4.5" X 7", and have embellished each page with melissa frances christmas collection, making pockets with brads, and eyelets.
i'm not sure where the days have gone, i feel i was a little discouraged over the paper dilemma with the jolly holiday kits that i put together, so i took too many days off actually about 2 or 3 weeks, when i shouldn't have and am now facing christmas with only 3 albums completed. but, i have enjoyed the time off that i have spent with the girls and decorating, so on with christmas! i hope everyone is able to enjoy the holidays with ones that they love. -rebecca
the night was surreal, the rain, high winds, lightening. very wild, very powerful. we were fortunate in our little area, no power outages, no trees down - very fortunate indeed! i am thankful we have underground power. sustained winds at 45mph gusts up to 69mph!. the mere sound of the wind was something you would hear in a scary haunted movie. the tall cedars were swaying and bending, the firs were wildly tossing their broken branches to the ground. now, calm.
so many others who were less fortunate, power lines down, trees in their homes, yards and streets.
i was up until 4 watching the trees, eating walnuts and watching the history channel about some scientists in the cascades looking for the sasquatch. i am thankful we are all well, the girls have a 2 hour late start, we are off to school. have a good productive week end, we will be baking cookies and the girls should be able to finally decorate our tree, yeah! -rebecca
i wrote to the editor of somerset studio magazine, who had guided me through the process of getting published, and informed her of the condition of the altered book that they had returned to me in shreds. she was apologetic and informed me that new checkpoints have been put into place so that the editors will be informed of any mishaps. she also told me that it was she who had put the adhesive on the tags with the manufactures reassurance that it would be safe with paper and that no adhesive whatsoever will be used on any art work from now on. i feel that what they have done to assure that others will not experience what dede and i have, are good positive steps and i do look forward to and feel confident in submitting other books or art pieces to the magazine, in the future! i will just make sure that i am in possession of the piece and not one of my friends, family or customers!
it is time to get on with holiday festivities and good cheer!
but this week in this great northwest of ours, a new weather front is moving in and we are once again, getting slightly nervous. we are expecting extremely high winds (which actually have already started!) and pouring rain, lightening and it is to continue through tomorrow morning! winds sustained at 35 to 45 mph with gusts to 75 mph! and snow on saturday! the last storm caused a 100 foot tree to topple, fortunately, it fell between everyones homes and other trees so no damage except to its poor self! so sad, and scary!
our fingers are crossed! the candles are out, the wood is chopped! have a good night - we will hold on tight -we're in for a bumpy ride! -rebecca
i will start by explaining that the two books that i had published in the gallery magazine were both bought by dede, who had asked if she could enter them in the juried art show that stampington was hosting, which i was more than excited to do, because i had always loved their legacy publication. she did and they chose both books to be in their gallery magazine. all fine and good, good, good! until... today.
my friend, dede, poor dede, opened her books that i had forwarded to her, after receiving them from stampington at the end of last month, well, actually, i had sent them to her about a week after i had gotten them, because that was the week of our 6" snowfall, then she was out of town for a bit, so she actually had them at her door last week, which was bad timing, because, she was so busy with family visitors, that she never took them out of the box until today, when we were talking on the phone. phew, take a breath. anyway, she removed the little love book first and was quite surprised to see that all the tiny tags with the famous twosomes on them were glued to the pages, what was that all about?! glued? how could they do that? while i was still scratching my head over that, she removed the seaside altered book and what do you think? omg rebecca, omg! geesh, not only were all the tags, but three, glued to the pages, but, the book itself was split down the middle and torn apart on different pages! omg! i cannot believe it! not a note enclosed, NOTHING! what is that all about??!! has this happened to anyone else?
after closer inspection, and me repeating in her ear, i believe we were both in shock, they couldn't glue the books! they wouldn't GLUE the books! she realized, the glue they used was that gooey, rubbery stuff that one finds on products from the stores - you know the stuff? well, she tried to remove the tags, very carefully, some actually tore the pages but all came off eventually. the love book is just okay, she says, but the altered album - well, tags are all stained on the backside, which is a small matter when compared to the book itself as you can see - what a mess!
i am highly disappointed! not even a note of apology! a simple we are sorry, a simple there was a problem, geesh! i only wish now, that i had taken the books out to look at them before i had forwarded them to dede. they were well packaged with bubble wrap and ghost turds, i had decided it would be better if i just sent them on down. what a mistake!
well, so sad, as dede said, "i don't want to think about it anymore!" i will now make some hot cocoa, sit at my work desk and continue with my next christmas album. goodnight all, geesh dede, i don't think this publishing thing was such a good idea after all - huh? sigh. -rebecca
it has been a while since i last blogged! geesh! i have been busy getting ready for the holidays, the tree is the last thing to do, we have had it since friday night but haven't been able to decorate it because we all have been so busy! maybe tomorrow? we do have 2 weeks! yikes and all the shopping to do! i have purchased 4 items so far and way more to go!
i have listed this "first noel" christmas album on ebay:
made with, of course, what else? daisy d's papers! lol take a peek at the right sidebar if you want to go check it out. i am working on another that i will hopefully, have listed this week also. i will let you know when that happens.
i hope you are all having a good, happy holiday season! it comes upon us so fast, sometimes it is hard just to sit and take a breath, but... do it! -rebecca
well, i guess the holiday season is really on, we went on our annual holiday boat cruise in seattle on sunday and it was wonderful! the weathermen predicted rain in the late afternoon, but fortunately, none came- yeah! as you can see from the pictures, it was a gorgeous evening! this photo is the floating bridge with mount rainer in the background. this is meagen, with a friend on the deck of the boat going under a bridge towards lake washington. seafair puts this cruise on for people with special needs,(meg has been in special education since she was 3 and will be graduating this year, yikes!) and does a terrific job! truly wonderful, all the volunteers organizing the event with patience, smiles, and caroling, working especially hard to make it a memorable celebration for everyone! even santa and his reindeer show up on jet skies! and on his own yacht with carolers! the seattle yacht club members donate their boats and time to take all of us out into lake union, around lake washington and back again, in a parade, with their boats lit with reindeer, santa’s, stars and christmas trees. in the cabins, treats of cheese, crackers, chips, cider, coffee, hot cocoa, holiday cookies and christmas music!
well, here are some photos of the pregnancy album i am working on for jenny:
i bought this calendar book new at 1/2 price books, stretched the spiral binding, removed the pages, covered each page with mind's eye- signature suite papers. making "pocket" pages, "note" pages and "calendar" pages for each of the 9 months, then adding tags and booklets with pertinent info such as: finding out - how, where, when, who, cravings and aversions, baby names, felt the baby move, dreams. nursery, etc. geesh, i will give it to her tonight, only finished through december, so she can start filling it with all of those "firsts".
hopefully, now, i will be able to get 1 or 2 christmas albums completed to post on ebay within the next week! did everyone find a copy of somerset studio gallery magazine today? woohoo! did they do a great job or what? so exciting!
