"petit bebe" a new storybook journal

so here is a new journal made from - what ? graphic 45 card-stock of course! lol. it's a baby journal for your little girls'  first year. well you can use it anyway you like, that is just what i had in mind when i created it. i will be listing it on my etsy today when i have finished here. the little card-stock images are from"heartwarming vintage"  collection from crafty secrets. jess and i picked them up when we went to the "ckc" in seattle. i love their goods!

this 4.5"  X  6.75" "petit bebe" journal has 50+ pages which include a combination of vellum, lined writing, drawing, linen, and card-stock papers, on which you may journal, sketch, draw, paint, and glue.

the covers were created from a 1949 "merchant of venice" book which I

have altered with papers and a "heartwarming"  image of a momma and

baby.

 

                                          name/date page

the inside cover has a vintage baby card used as a pocket with a printed 

vintage postcard baby announcement tucked in. and the name/date card 

is an actual vintage announcement card. 

 

                                      back of name/date page

a vintage baby card attached as a pocket to the pocket. Each section

after each divider is followed by a sheet of baby pink vellum.

 

                                      the correspondence page

 2 smaller pockets one above the other on this divider will hold smaller

items. i have slipped a couple of little tags from "heartwarming" under a

heart clip.

this is a full page pocket, with 2 pockets on the front and wide silk

ribbon sewn to the edge of this divider.

this is a 1930's bingo card with a bingo card pocket and a sweet printed

photo image tucked in. a little baby collage was created on the pocket.

the sun is shining, all's right with the world! wow, we are cold here in the great northwest, but not like we were. some more snow fell sunday but it quickly disappeared, thank goodness!

i have a few things i would like to share with you, first i am revising, recreating? my adornments. instead of raising the price, i am slipping the vintage images in without cutting, rounding the edges, inking or protecting. i am adding a slip of paper letting you know how to protect them from water driplets, but the rest is up to you to create the look you want. also, i am switching out some of the images for new ones, but keeping the adornment name the same. they will be sent in 4" X 6" poly-bags instead of the 3" X 5" ones, but the papers and images will still measure 3" X 5", they shouldn't be so difficult to remove from the bag! geesh!

marty, from ephemera contacted me for an interview about my altered book albums. he posted that interview yesterday. marty's site has all kinds of wonderful tidbits, interviews and links about ephemera, i love this! i have been collecting "junk" all my life, little rusty things, stained papers, books and oddments-ephemera a much more better word than "junk"! lol.

i have to say, this lady has the most beautiful seam bindings ever, they are soft, colorful and take tea-dying perfectly! she wraps everything up pretty and sends your goodies out pronto!   MattieCakes-cute name too!

one last bit of info- i have opened a "studio" on artfire a new handmade selling site. actually i opened my studio in december, and haven't quite figured out just what to stock it with, right now i've just put some items that i have listed on etsy and some paper curiosities. art fire just opened in september, i believe, so we need all the advertisement possible! it offers a few different features, it's FREE, photos can be uploaded and they are bigger, that's always nice. i hope it becomes as known as etsy. if you have some items just sitting around and you would like to maybe see if selling is for you, try artfire, it's totally free! my advice to anyone thinking of selling- be patient! it took at least 3 months before i really started selling on etsy, i did have some dear fans that followed me from ebay, so that helped, but it takes patience and perseverance. keep listing and creating! hey, you have nothing to lose on artfire, it's free!

so, i guess that is all the newsy news here, oh yes, i am really cleaning out and organizing! it feels good, it's distracting, i will be in the middle of creating something and just have to stop and get that dang paper folder cleared out so i can see exactly what i have, or,  that drawer of stuff that keeps hanging up when i open it, geesh! well, when it's done, i will have more flat space to spread my goodies out when i'm in the middle of a project, instead of a little 12" X 12" area.

new storybook journal "spring"

          

                 

hello, hello! so is everyone enjoying spring-like weather?  can't believe this one- another "arctic blast" hit us a couple of days ago, ohmygosh! 5" ! it was below freezing for a week! geesh, i thought we were coming into spring! surprise! well, last year we did get snow in april, so i guess we never know.

well, i did get a few items created around here, this new storybook journal "spring", lol, is one of the things i have listed tonight on etsy

              

the covers were created using 2 different children's books from 1873 and 1881.

 

name/date page

 

reverse side of the name/date page. i have placed a pretty light blue vellum

page after each divider.

 

this is the "mail" page with 2 pockets. the lower pocket is shallow to hold

stamps, tickets, or any small item. the page turn is velvet with a little bird

charm hanging from a treble clef clip.

 

this is the back side of the mail page with 1 pocket and tag. this pocket was

created from a page of a 1907 children's poem book.

 

this is the 1930's bingo card divider with a sweet tag in it's pocket. a vintage

book illustration on the front with vintage lace and pearl-like button tops. 

 

the backside has 2 pockets with 1 tag

 

the last divider, with a vintage lace pocket and 1 tag

 

teh reverse side with 3 coin envelope pockets and 3 tags with vintage music

book pages used for the fronts.

new storybook journal "travel"

 i shall return with descriptions of this new journal in a bit, i need to have some alaskan king crab legs straight from the great frontier, thanks polly!   i'm back and happy! so here is my new storybook  journal "travel" created with papers from who else but... yes,  graphic 45 papers. i have listed this journal in my etsy shop here:              

                      

the cover is a 1941 children's book. the front has a little collage of vintage

travel postcard images with a metal number plate.

 

the first page is the name/date page. the paper in the metal page turn

slipped crooked when i took this picture, geesh, i will cut a new paper

that will stay in place.

 

on the reverse of the name page is a vertical pocket, with a full page pocket

between the pages. i have used handmade papers after each divider.

 

the second divider has 2 horizontal pockets, the bottom pocket may be

used for a book of stamps, phone numbers or anything that needs a shallow

place to be. this pocket also has a spiral clip(with an airplane charm) if you

would like to attach an item to the front of it

 

the backside has one horizontal pocket. please be bold and add clips, pins or

any type of attachment to these pages to hold special items.

 

the third divider has 2 horizontal pockets on the front and a full page pocket

between the pages. there is a leather page pull attached to this page, with

ties at the bottom to keep any papers that you slip into the pocket, from

falling out.  

 

the reverse side has 2 horizontal pockets with vintage lace and buttons.

 

this 1930's bingo card has a pocket on front, with another little pocket

created with a vintage image of a restaurant card, and is backed with a

piece of card-stock...

 

with a horizontal pocket and a tag. there is also a fabric envelope with

button to stash special goodies in.

 

this divider has a vintage lace side pocket and on the back...

new "playtime" mini album

so, here is the little album i promised you a couple of days ago, i got caught up in my de-stashing again and lost track of time, geesh! i love these papers from "graphic 45" too, i also picked some of the travel papers up for a travel journal, so fun! i love these guys! this "playtime" 5.5" X 6" 10 page  "playtime" album is listed here:

there is a "teapot" pocket with a tag tucked in. i have used 110lb. premium

cover papers in ecru to create the tags in this album.

   

                                                    pages 1 and 2

there are 2 pockets and 2 tags on these two pages. the tags in this album 

have printed vintage school reader illustrations on the fronts, the

backs are left blank.

2 more pockets on these pages. isn't this tinker toy paper cool?

 

                                                     pages 5 and 6

2 pockets attached to the pages with embroidery thread, with 2 tags 

slipped into the pockets.                       

 

                                                      pages 7 and 8 

 there are 2 pockets on each page here, with 2 tags, and a 4 page accordion

album attached to the front of the pocket, with a seam binding ribbon

closure and a mary jane shoe charm attached to the ribbon. i have used silk

thread to attach the pockets to the pages.

                        

here is a close-up of the little 2.5" X 2.5" accordion album. i have matted

the inside of the album,but you could use the flip side of the pages to attach

more little photos.

there are once again 4 pockets on these two pages , with 2 tags, and a little

mat with a star clip to tuck a photo, journaling or piece of ephemera under.
