Scraps Of Time

spring has sprung!

                              

how did that happen so fast? all of a sudden, one night last week, the frogs croaked. the sound came from the little creek down the road, it was dark. that is how i know spring is close. then the smells, light and sweet late at night and early mornings. yeah!

the official first day of spring we had snow flakes, big soft flakes, for about half an hour, then rain, finally sun. yes, spring is here. the great northwest doesn't give into the season gently, it sputters and spits and then, eventually, eases out and lets all of us breathe a sigh of relief and don our t-shirts and shorts. not quite yet, but soon.

how is everyone? huh? i can't hear you! i hope fine, i know it's hard coming out of hibernation, facing the sunshine, blink, blink. except for those of you already in the sunshine, i cannot imagine living with sun always, well, i can imagine it if i lived in hawaii - love that tropical weather! green lush always warm, sweet air. ahhhh. anyway, i have been working hard on jens pregnancy book, geesh, am i still working on this? it is done, it is big. have a look for yourselves:

                      

this is big, 3" thick, those of you who have a book that i have made realize that each page is heavy, thick, what is the right word? each of the 28 pages are 1/6" thick. i think sean might have to carry it around for jen, it may be too heavy for her, with only 2 months to go! lol. now on with the nursery walls! and an easter album kit, i hope!

she spent all saturday night and until 4 sunday morning getting it set up, she is anxious to start listing her little pieces of art,(which are adorable!) but, homework does have priority, and 4 o'clock in the morning is too late to stay up, jess! geesh! 16 years old, who's the mother here?

well, it is close to 4am now, my bedtime, lol. are you still up paula? get to bed! good night all, i will be working on some kind of kit for the blog and maybe some tags for etsy? hummm. that is, after working on the nursery. wow, 2 more months and our lives will be changed forever, once again. lovin' it!

"Paper Curiosities" Collage/Ephemera Packets

i hope everyone had a good st. paddy's day! we had the traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner, yummy, way don't i cook that more than just once a year? i guess it's like turkey, that is a yearly event here too!

finally, i am almost caught up, if that is ever possible, in this creativity business! there is always something that needs to be done, created, or finished. but i do have some time to work on the baby room walls, that is the important thing right now, jen is getting anxious- about- everything! lol, do i remember that!

here is the latest "goodies pack", "Paper Curiosities" it is filled with over 40 paper curiosities!

                         

the papers that i have included in these packs are pages from yesteryear schoolbooks, dictionary's, pamphlets, ephemera and extra printed images of postcards and things that i have collected. when making albums, i need to use acid/lignin free materials, so, i scan and print. sometimes, actually, quite often it appears, i print an image and it just doesn't work with the project i am working on , so i will put it aside and reprint, because of this, i have scads of extra images everywhere. some, i have even inked before realizing that it just isn't right, so in these packets, you will find these images printed on card-stock, vellum, acid free printer paper and sometimes transparencies. i hope that you may be able to use them and create something wonderful!

HAPPY SAINT PATRICK'S DAY EVERYONE! WOOHOO!

whatzup

phew, it's been pretty busy around here for going on 2 weeks now, an i am still not caught up! geesh! i must start with this great picture of meagen and jenny, is this cute or what? jen is now starting into her 30th week , 10 weeks left! woohoo. i am so happy that they live right next door! the baby is growing so fast now that every time we see her, she is looking different. the girls get to actually see little owen moving and kicking around in there! i am painting some fairytale images on the nursery walls, i will post them as i work on them. right now as i mentioned, i have been swamped, so the painting has stopped until i can get caught up a bit. the images will be: jack in the beanstalk, a castle with a winding path of characters, the cow jumped over the moon, and hopefully in one little corner, a little fire truck breaking through the wall.

thank you all for your orders! it is great fun and a challenge to get everything put together, in the right order, right packaging and in the mail! i am running a bit behind, i'll blame it on meg, she came down with a bug sunday night and didn't get any rest until 4am. why always at night? geesh! this hasn't happened in years, so i am out of practice. she stayed home from school on monday but was ready to go back. everything is back to normal, thank gawd, and i am back creating!

then, of course, i get an idea, i have way too much stuff! so one night jess and i started to put together some packets of miscellaneous book papers, printed images and paper ephemera that i have had sitting around for tooooo long. i need more room! since all of the images and papers that i use have to be acid free, i scan and print everything, so, consequently, i have too much stuff taking up preciously need room. it was a challenge to tear the books apart, manohman, they were put together to last in the olden days, i'll say that! and then, all the printed images that i have never used for whatever reasons, too big, too small, facing the wrong direction, wrong colors for the project, whatever. i always end up printing new ones for new projects because i can never find the one i am looking for when i know it is "right here somewhere!" in the end, i am happy with the results. i will be putting these new "paper curios", as i am calling them, in my etsy shop, as soon as i get a chance to take some photos and write the listing. they will be fun for those of you who alter books, collage or any mixed media art project.

then, another idea surfaces, lets make it easier for all of us when buying something on this here blog, a cart! so, another night of going through the whole blog and getting rid of the old "buy it now" buttons and inserting new "add to cart" buttons. it is much easier to have items combined, isn't it?

through all of this business going on, my work desk is a mess! good thing i have a pull-out tray(meant to be used for a keyboard) to work on and a roll top to hide it from company!

oh yeah, almost forgot, i have received some fun goodies in the mail too, little trinkets, charms, clips and other goodies i found on etsy.  the tiniest little tin containers filled with vintage sequins and 2 teensy little lockets that really work! very fun.
